Yumotokan is located approximately 40 minutes from Niigata Station and 10 minutes from the Lake Hyoko, known for many swans that migrate to this area, in what is called the Goto hot spring village. Within 2km from the base of Mt. Gozu that has five mountain peaks are three different hot spring spots; Imaita hot springs, Deyu hot springs, and Murasugi hot springs. The four seasons make a beautiful transition.Rows of cherry blossom trees bloom and wild vegetables make an excellent harvest in the mountains in spring. The green colors decorate the whole village and fireflies dance around the rice fields and rivers in summer. Trees and their leaves turn into red and orange in autumn; the best season for Koshihikari rice in Gozu. White snow piles up on the rice fields, and more than 5,000 swans migrate to the Lake Hyoko in winter. It is a country town with the sight of rice fields and beautiful nature.
Yumotokan is a Japanese-style Imaita hot spring hotel that is located in the Gozu hot springs village and surrounded by cedar trees and bamboo trees. We have fourteen rooms from where visitors can relax and enjoy the sight of our courtyard. Please enjoy our delicious Japanese dishes and sake, and have a relaxing stay on the countryside of Niigata.

Hot spring

The hot spring at Yumotokan is a simple weak-radioactive cold mineral spring called “Radium Spring”. It is transparent, has no scent, and slightly tepid, however, it warms you up from inside. Especially the steam from the hot spring has a good efficacy; it improves your metabolism and repairs your body functions by breathing it in. Because it prevents your body from getting oxidized, it is often called “hot spring of health”, “hot spring of beautiful skin”, and “anti-aging hot spring”. We have one large indoor bath and one open-air bath, both of which are available 24 hours a day. We also have one bath for reservations only. Our open-air bath is surrounded by the nature, and visitors can enjoy bathing while enjoying the view.

We serve Japanese style dishes cooked with carefully selected seasonal ingredients. We also serve carp dishes, made with fresh carps from the clean water up in the mountain, that are popular among many people as a country food. If you are not fond of carp dishes (e.g.: carp sashimi, simmered carp, and carp miso soup), please let us know in advance; we can change the menu specially for you. For visitors with allergies and physical conditions who cannot eat certain foods or ingredients, please let us know in advance. We have a wide variety of liquors available, including beer, Shochu (Japanese vodka), wine and whiskey. Our stock of Japanese sake counts more than 20 brands.
